Job Description:

This is a training position. Once you complete your training, you will move into a Meat Department Manager position. Each retail team member plays a vital role in our stores and the communities they serve. You will be asked to take care of various tasks throughout the store. The Alaska Commercial Company offers rewarding experiences and unique opportunities for growth. Candidates must be willing to relocate to rural regions of Alaska. Relocation arrangements will be made and paid for by the Alaska Commercial Company.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide excellent customer service by delivering on the Value Offer
  • Deal quickly and effectively with customer complaints, requests, and inquiries
  • Schedule department staff to maximize customer service and fulfill business needs
  • Work with the Meat Department Manager to manage the Meat Department and maximize sales and profits
  • Monitor gross profit, investigate, and address variances and communicate to the Category Manager
  • Monitor sales trends and complete regular competitor price checks
  • Ensure the daily operating disciplines, as described in the Best Practices Manual (Retail Basics) are consistently met
  • Ensure product quality through correct ordering, receiving, inspection, handling, labeling, pricing, and stock rotation
  • Recruit, support, train, and develop staff

Requirements:

  • 1+ years of management OR supervisory experience in meat retail
  • Must have experience in a meat department or with meat cutting techniques
  • Strong knowledge of meat operating principles
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail and good organization skills
  • Willingness to be open, learn, and take on new responsibilities
  • Ability to appropriately delegate work duties, manage and motivate staff
