Are you looking for a role in a fast paced, high profile political environment where your work genuinely makes a difference? Watford is a bold, ambitious council that thinks big and delivers for its residents. Our newly re elected Liberal Democrat Mayor is seeking a confident, astute Political Assistant to support him during a defining period for the borough and for local government. Working at the heart of political leadership, you will provide trusted political, policy and communications support to help deliver mayoral priorities, advance manifesto commitments and ensure Watford’s voice is strong and influential during Local Government Reorganisation. You will play a key role in supporting the Mayor to represent residents’ interests clearly and effectively as decisions are taken about the borough’s future. You will be a self starter with sound political judgement, work at pace and handle sensitive issues with discretion. You will thrive in a close working relationship with a political leader and Portfolio Holders, bringing a strong understanding of Liberal Democrat values and policy, an interest in local government, and excellent communications, research and briefing skills. You will be confident working autonomously and build relationships across a complex political and organisational landscape. We offer the opportunity to work for a high-performing local authority with a strong reputation for ambition and innovation. We are an agile organisation that supports flexible working, underpinned by a clear expectation of delivery and impact.
