Job Description:

A new, independent specialist school in the beautiful Dorking area is seeking an enthusiastic Maths Teacher with expertise in SEN. The role involves teaching students aged 7-14 (initially) with Autism and/or SEMH needs, starting in September 2025 (or sooner for an exceptional candidate). The school emphasizes a holistic and nurturing educational approach, set within a natural therapeutic environment. The teacher will play a central role in developing and delivering engaging Maths content while working closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, differentiated Maths lessons that inspire and motivate students with diverse learning needs
  • Develop and adapt curriculum content to meet the specific requirements of students with SEN, including Autism and SEMH difficulties
  • Utilise a range of assessment methods to monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and inform future planning
  • Create a positive, supportive, and well-managed classroom environment that promotes student engagement and wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, teaching assistants, and other specialists, to support student development
  • Contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support strategies
  • Foster a love of mathematics throughout the school and contribute to wider school initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external agencies
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and contribute to the school's inclusive and aspirational culture

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A strong background in teaching Mathematics, ideally across KS2, KS3 and KS4
  • Proven experience and a genuine passion for working effectively with students with Special Educational Needs, particularly those with Autism and/or SEMH needs
  • A demonstrable ability to differentiate teaching and learning to meet a wide range of needs
  • Excellent classroom management skills, with a patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community
  • A creative and flexible approach to teaching and problem-solving
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • An enthusiasm for contributing to the development of a new school and its unique ethos
