Oversee, support and manage activities related to materials and equipment flow and logistics in a shop environment. The main objective of this role is to implement, standardize and administer critical processes that ensure the smooth and efficient operation of a production process. This role supports and manages activities that involve the systematic movement, storage, and preparation of components and materials required for production. The goal is to minimize downtime, reduce waste, and maintain a continuous flow of parts to each workstation.
Job Responsibility:
Inspect all incoming materials and equipment
Verified for quality and quantity before being introduced into the production environment
Organize materials and store materials in designated areas using methods that optimize space and accessibility per materials handling and storage program
Provide inventory control and rotate materials by purchase order and production project
Stage components pre-positioned near the assembly line in the correct sequence and quantities required for each production cycle
Participate in material flow and delivery from storage to staging areas and then to the assembly line using appropriate handling equipment (e.g., carts, conveyors, forklifts)
Incorporate lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency
Utilize ergonomic considerations to ensure that materials are positioned to minimize strain and enhance worker safety
Work in a collaborative environment to improve production efficiency and reduced downtime
Strive to enhanced inventory accuracy and control
Help manage vendors and suppliers to lower risk of material shortages or excess
Monitor and maintain compliance with corporate and project safety program requirements
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and promote a safe work environment
Develop daily task/job lists, set appropriate expectations, and ensure tasks and jobs are completed
Utilize interpersonal skills to accomplish objectives received from shop fabrication leadership
Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, operational logs and safety records
Work in a team environment to ensure customer requirements and productivity are achieved
Maintain an organized work environment
Participate in the execution of a cycle count and physical count program
Track backorders from vendors in a timely manner
Work with department supervisors to create physical organization of inventoried items
Occasionally load and unload items from the warehouse and yard
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Background in materials procurement and/or inventory management with 1-3 years of experience
Proficient understanding of mechanical materials including equipment, pipe, valves, fittings, etc.
Strong computer skills with ability to learn new software
Operate computer to input and retrieve data
Show proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Coordinate own tasks with a specific range of responsibilities
