The Asphalt Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and closing pavement maintenance projects focused on mastic asphalt, crackseal operations, and related roadway preservation services. This role manages crews, equipment, materials, schedules, and client relationships to ensure safe, high‑quality, and profitable project delivery. Responsibilities include estimating, production tracking, field oversight, and ensuring compliance with DOT and municipal standards.
Job Responsibility:
Plan and manage daily operations for mastic asphalt, cracksealing, crackfill, and related maintenance work
Schedule crews, equipment, and trucking based on project demands and resource availability
Perform job cost tracking, production reporting, and budget monitoring for assigned projects
Work directly with city, county, DOT, and private clients to coordinate work plans and resolve issues
Ensure all work meets applicable technical specifications and safety requirements
Oversee material usage including mastic blocks, sealant, aggregate, and heating/melting systems
Conduct site visits, identify scope changes, and prepare/assist with project estimates
Supervise field personnel, providing coaching, performance feedback, and problem-solving support
Ensure proper maintenance and operation of specialized equipment (mastic applicators, routers, compressors, melters, striping/traffic control equipment)
Maintain accurate project documentation, daily logs, quality checks, and safety reports
Implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve material performance
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
additional technical training preferred
3–5 years of pavement maintenance, asphalt construction, or roadway operations experience
Strong communication skills and ability to manage crews and subcontractors
Highly organized with strong time management skills
Ability to read plans, specifications, and work orders
Knowledge of DOT, municipal, and industry standards related to asphalt preservation
Experience with mastic/asphalt crackseal materials, heating processes, and installation methods
Familiarity with traffic control setups, MUTCD standards, and work zone safety practices
Understanding of project quantities, production rates, and budget tracking
Proficiency with basic project management tools (Excel, scheduling apps, field reporting tools)
