Master’s Thesis in Materials & Processes – Analysis of Cold Gas Sprayed Aluminum Coatings. Cold Gas Spraying (CGS) has established itself as a versatile process for additive manufacturing and the repair of metallic components. Particularly in the case of aluminum-based layers, performance depends significantly on the internal coating quality, which is determined by the particle bond, porosity, and interface conditions. Currently, however, robust, non-destructive methods are lacking to evaluate this quality inline or close to the process—an essential prerequisite for industrial use in safety-critical applications. In this Master’s thesis, the potential of various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for assessing coating quality is to be investigated.
Job Responsibility:
Investigation of the coating quality of cold gas sprayed aluminum layers using non-destructive testing methods
Identify correlations between the results of the NDT methods and the mechanical properties of the layers
Evaluate their suitability for process-accompanying quality control
Requirements:
Master’s studies in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, or a related subject
Fluency in English
Basic German knowledge
