A well established New Zealand dairy exporter is looking for a commercially driven Market Manager to take ownership of designated export markets across Japan, Southeast Asia, and Korea. This is a growth focused role within a business that has expanded significantly over the past year and is continuing to invest in its international sales capability. Reporting to the General Manager Sales, you will manage an established portfolio across powder, butter, and cheese, with a mandate to deepen existing customer relationships and develop new business opportunities. Travel to overseas markets is expected.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and grow an established book of business across Japan, Southeast Asia, and Korea
Negotiate sales offers to achieve target prices, margins, and sold position
Develop new customer relationships through distributor networks and NZTE partnerships
Execute multiple market visits per year to maintain relationship continuity and convert opportunities
Maintain current market insights and trends across supply, demand, and competitor activity
Manage post-sales processes including order management, customer follow-up, and dispute resolution
Collaborate with internal stakeholders across planning, logistics, finance, and sales support
Contribute to joint business planning and long-term commercial proposals with key accounts
Requirements:
Experience in food export or international sales, ideally within FMCG or commodity markets
Proven track record of business development and customer management across international markets
Strong commercial acumen with a trading mindset and the ability to make decisive calls under pressure
Experience working with distributors and navigating multi-cultural business environments
Dairy or ingredients experience is advantageous but we are open to candidates from adjacent categories who demonstrate a strong desire to learn
Comfortable with regular international travel and able to respond with agility to market conditions
