Job Description

The job incumbent is responsible for conducting quality inspection of ships in service or construction to determine their conformity with specified requirements (BV rules, International Maritime Organizations, National Regulations, Standards IACS Requirements, etc.) or to attest a given situation of a ship.

Job Responsibility

  • Conduct quality inspection of ships in service or construction to determine their conformity with specified requirements
  • Undertake classification / certification and statutory surveys and inspections of ships in service according to rules and regulations
  • Carry out ISM/ISPS/MLC audits, as assigned by supervisor
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders and ensure all survey / inspection reports are factual, objective and submitted within the stipulated format and timeframe
  • Keep up to date with new rules, regulations and technical information or process disseminated through internal communication
  • Participate in meetings (both internal and external) as required
  • Attend all scheduled trainings (locally and overseas) and ultimately achieving specified delegations as agreed in Performance Management Process
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of time & expense sheets

Requirements

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Marine Engineering and/or experience in Marine related industry
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience
  • Possess good communication, networking and influencing skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate team members
  • Good business acumen
  • Proficiency in English level

  • Responsible and oversee plan approval activities in Canada and U.S. Main point of contact with clients and external stakeholders (USCG, Transport Canada, engineering companies, etc.) for plan approval (PA) related issues and questions, as directed by the Client Technical Service (CTS) Manager. Compile and issue quotations for Local Plan Office (LPO) services – all disciplines (Hull, Machinery, Electricity/Automation, Fire & Safety, Stability) – in collaboration & cooperation with the North America Commercial Team. Develop strategy and action plan to work towards UPO independence to serve North America market needs without reliance on LPO network (to maximum extent allowable) – including design and implementation for necessary surveyor training & development, as driven by market segment growth. Daily management for the UPO team – procedures, tools, lean management, visual management, information, internal reporting, incl. necessary interactions and meetings with Head Office (HO) and the global Bureau Veritas network. Support the PA activity of other LPOs, when requested, and manage subcontracting within the LPO network for jobs outside UPO’s delegations. Oversee and manage UPO team qualifications according to internal quality procedures, qualifications, activity & report monitoring, etc. Attend internal and external meetings and workshops in connection with design review across all disciplines. Collaborate and support the North America Commercial Team with client PA-related inquiries and engage with client meetings/calls as required. Prepare and manage internal and external audits of UPO, address any non- conformities and implement corrective actions. Actively participate in the sharing of knowledge and information, organize the support for rules development at request of HO.
