Job Description:

We are looking for a Marine Claims Team Leader to oversee a team of Marine claims adjusters handling primarily Marine Property, Auto Physical Damage, and Specialized Account Marine Programs. Reporting to the Director of Short Tail Claims, this role includes managing the team, technical referrals, utilizing third-party service providers, maintaining strong broker and client relationships, handling investigations, reserving claims, compliance, audits, market representation, and claims data reporting. The team leader will also lead, train, mentor junior staff, and involve various functional areas in the claims handling process.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and manage Marine Claims Team that handles Marine claims
  • Act as a technical referral point for Claims handlers
  • Ensure claims handled within authority limits, and in line with AzC Claims Standards procedures and guidelines
  • Utilize third party service providers to achieve economical results and to provide a high-quality service to all internal and external customers
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients
  • Managing a team of Claims Handlers including training and mentoring of staff, managing technical referrals, and supporting Data Quality and Reporting initiatives
  • Oversight of investigations and reserving claims
  • Investigation of claims, including coverage determination and evaluation of loss exposures
  • Determine appropriate reserving levels
  • Oversight of claims processing and administration
  • Input and maintain accurate claims records for designated accounts, within appropriate AGC&S Claims administration systems
  • Manage timely production of management information reports (e.g., monthly major claims movements) and proactively identify loss trends
  • Referrals and Compliance
  • Ensure all claims handled within authority limits, and in line with AGCS Claims Standards procedures and guidelines
  • Refer cases outside of authority level, preparing referral documentation and materials as appropriate
  • Undertake audits of external service providers as appropriate
  • Proactively support the acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary)
  • Positively represent AGCS externally to the market
  • Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Claims handling process, e.g., Underwriting, Distribution, ARC, Operations
  • Effectively report and present loss and claims information internally and externally

Requirements:

  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in specialized understanding of LOB products and portfolio with technical specialist knowledge
  • Management of systems (e.g., WINS, CLAWS, Global Genius)
  • Specialized understanding of regional/local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in specialized understanding of insurance related financial mechanisms and KPIs
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in in-depth understanding of Claims Handling requirements as per internal and regulatory guidelines
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in understanding of reporting and evaluating Claims data for management purposes
  • Managing people: Ability to lead and manage a team of claim handlers
  • Recognized relationship building with brokers at peer group level and well established within local market
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory framework
  • Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve business process and decision-making is highly beneficial
  • Products and Coverages: understanding in relevant products, wordings, terms and conditions and coverages
  • Reinsurance and coinsurance: Robust understanding of coinsurance and reinsurance and application
  • Litigation: Robust understanding of relevant legal processes and procedures, litigation management, litigation avoidance techniques (e.g., mediation)
  • Reserving: Expert knowledge of reserving principles and practices
  • Preferably a degree in Economics, Law, Insurance, or other appropriate discipline
  • Completion of professional insurance qualification
  • Negotiation and conflict management: Ability to negotiate best position for AGCS, and client, often in contentious situations, managing conflicting priorities of various parties
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to effectively absorb information from various sources, then analyze, study or examine data in detail, and draw appropriate conclusions
