Job Description:

The Halcyon Private Isles Maldives, set in a thriving location for tropical marine life, is looking for a Marine Biology Assistant to assist in showcasing its vibrant underwater world to resort guests and undertaking marine conservation work.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist the Resident Marine Biologist with resort guest marine biology educational and in-water activities, such as marine life briefings, presentations, snorkeling sessions, Young Marine Biologist Program and other children’s environmental activities
  • Assisting with marine conservation and research work, such as marine turtle sitings, coral reef monitoring and coral restoration, under direction of the Resident Marine Biologist
  • Assist in other environmental/sustainability work undertaken at the resort, such as staff training sessions and sustainability initiatives involving all resort operational areas

Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and Russian (Required)
  • PADI/NAUI Advanced Openwater Scuba Diver Certification
  • Strong snorkeling skills
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about marine life
  • Experience interacting with the general public on marine biology and conservation topics

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, ideally in Marine Biology
  • Rescue Diver qualification or equivalent
  • Prior work experience in the tourism industry
  • Experience in undertaking research work on SCUBA and/or snorkel
  • Experience living and working in a remote location
  • Hard-working, with a positive and calm personality, comfortable with interacting and living with people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures
