Mariachi Teacher

• Provides and is accountable for the planning, assessment, instruction, communication, human relations, safety, and management of a classroom or assigned instructional setting
• Supports FCPS mission to 'inspire, enable, and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead ethical lives, and demonstrate responsible citizenship'
• Instruct students in traditional Mariachi instruments (violin, trumpet, guitarrón, vihuela, guitar) and vocal styles
• Actively recruiting students to ensure the ensemble's growth
• Developing culturally responsive curricula
• Fulfilling necessary after-school commitments for rehearsals and performances

• Relevant teaching certification and/or educational background in music
• Demonstrated experience and expertise with Mariachi music performance and pedagogy
• Proven experience teaching traditional Mariachi instruments and vocal styles, preferably at the secondary (high school) level
• Willingness to accommodate after-school rehearsals and performance schedules
• Experience creating curricula that reflects Mariachi traditions and is culturally responsive
• Ability to effectively market and recruit students to participate in the music program
• Bilingual Spanish/English is highly desired to enhance instruction and connection to the cultural roots of Mariachi
• All applicants must meet the certification requirements of the commonwealth of Virginia
