Meta's Reality Labs organization brings together experts to develop and ship groundbreaking products at the intersection of hardware, software, and platform. The Technical Operations team has the responsibility for evaluating technologies and identifying supply chain solutions that allow AR/VR Org to deliver products to market at scale. Manufacturing Test Engineer will drive the development and deployment of hardware test systems with manufacturing partners and third-party integrators. You will be driving the design, development, and validation of factory test systems specifically for display & optical measurements, including display panels, optical modules and final assembled products. You will help to define overall product test strategy, evaluate test equipment and qualification processes, and lead and facilitate integration of test systems into our existing data tracking networks and factory control systems. You will be designing and documenting new manufacturing equipment with standardization and reliability as a priority and creating test plans for validating existing equipment.
Job Responsibility:
Serve as the primary technical interface with X-functional teams (Engineering, Supply Chain, etc.) to drive test procedure development, implementation, and rapid issue resolution during NPI and volume manufacturing ramp
Development and implementation of manufacturing test strategy during development and production phases of product lifecycle. Work with Engineering and vendor test teams to design and assemble bench setups and test fixtures
Work with the Engineering Team to define test coverage and align test accuracy/spec for display and optical subsystems
Work with the Capex Team to identify the best supplier/partner to meet product requirements from both technical perspective as well as supply chain and manufacturing considerations
Work directly with the factory test engineers providing guidance and support as necessary in test methods, equipment, and test set-up
Coordination of and travel to suppliers (foreign and domestic) to establish technical and manufacturing processes required during product development and volume manufacturing ramp
Requirements:
Good understanding of fundamental optical principles, color spaces, imaging systems, and the manufacturing processes for display and optical modules
Proven understanding of key factory measurement metrics for colorimetry, luminance, panel uniformity, mura, flicker, etc
Familiarity with optical alignment methods, active alignment systems, and precision motion control in a factory environment
BS or MS degree in Electronics Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field
3+ years of experience managing test development within a high-volume consumer electronics environment
Understanding of fundamental considerations of building hardware in development and volume production stages. Demonstrated experience in defining, developing, and troubleshooting manufacturing test issues
Experience in building cross-functional relationships
Experienced in managing a group of vendor engineers/technicians, building a team providing swift and effective responses to technical tasks
Nice to have:
In-depth, hands-on experience with display & optical testing systems (e.g., using light sources, spectrometers, colorimeters etc.)
Direct experience with machine vision systems and image processing algorithms for automated optical inspection (AOI) in a high-volume manufacturing setting
Demonstrated experience in the technical down-selection and justification of optical metrology tools based on performance specifications such as measurement accuracy, repeatability, speed, cost analysis, and long-term maintenance requirements for mass production
Proven ability to customize and integrate specialized display and optical test instruments (e.g., custom light sources, integrating spheres, conoscope lenses) into highly reliable, high-speed factory test stations
Understanding of module test and manufacturing processes with direct experience managing manufacturing test implementation and execution
Drive results, motivate, and instill a sense of urgency in others
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
