As a First Line Manufacturing Paint Manager (Level K) in North Charleston, South Carolina, you won’t simply oversee paint operations—you will inspire people, build high-performing teams, and directly contribute to delivering world-class airplanes that redefine what’s possible. This is a variable shift position.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and inspire teammates in paint operations in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
  • Execute daily production plans that bring the 787 Dreamliner to life
  • Build strong partnerships with Customers, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to solve complex challenges
  • Develop, manage and coach teammates to unlock their full potential and build future leaders
  • Drive continuous improvement using Lean principles and operational excellence tools
  • Foster a culture grounded in safety, quality, accountability, and pride in craftsmanship
  • Help position Boeing South Carolina for continued growth, innovation, and production rate increases

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or equivalent military experience
  • Experience managing paint processes (informally/formally)
  • 3+ years of experience leading teams in a formal and/or informal role
  • Ability to lead and execute within a structured production environment
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles
  • Willingness and ability to support variable shifts based on operational needs

Nice to have:

  • 5+ years of decorative paint experience in OEM or MRO paint facility
  • Experience leading hourly employees in a production environment
  • Proven track record of implementing Lean or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • A&P license

  • Define paint line concepts (booths, pretreatment, ovens/cure, conveyors/handling, robotics/automation, filtration and airflow topology) and produce equipment procurement specs
  • Partner with Industrial Design and Design Engineering to translate aesthetic and tolerancing requirements into processable paint solutions
  • Work with the Materials & Processes Team to qualify coatings, surface prep requirements, chemistries, corrosion protection, and ensure compatibility with bonding/assembly processes
  • Manage supplier selection, technical integration, FAT/SAT, installation oversight, and handover to production
  • Develop control plans, work instructions, process parameters (temperature, humidity, air balance, film thickness, bake cycles), SPC charts, and poka-yoke for critical steps
  • Design and deploy automation where it increases throughput and consistency (robotic application, automated masking/demasking, part tracking). Balance capital vs. part-rate tradeoffs
  • Lead NPI-to-production qualification: pilot runs, capability studies, first-article acceptance, lessons-learned, and ramp risk management
  • Ensure environmental, health & safety, and permitting compliance (VOC control, filtration/waste handling, hazardous materials management) and work with EH&S and local permitting teams
