As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern at 10x Genomics, you will play a direct role in scaling our production capabilities. This internship would be part of the Reagent & Consumable Manufacturing team. This 10-12 week program is designed for a technical "doer" who is eager to apply engineering principles to real-world manufacturing challenges. You will focus on identifying, justifying, and implementing automation solutions that enhance process efficiency, ensuring our transformative products reach researchers with speed and precision.
Job Responsibility:
Identify Automation Opportunities: Audit existing manual manufacturing workflows - such as labeling, dispensing, and visual inspections - to pinpoint bottlenecks
Build Business Cases: Quantify the potential ROI, time savings, and quality improvements for proposed automation projects to gain stakeholder buy-in
Execute Technical Projects: Lead the end-to-end implementation of 1-2 small-scale automation tools or systems (e.g., automating tube dispenses or label application)
Validate Solutions: Perform testing and verification of new tools to ensure they meet manufacturing specifications and quality standards
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work alongside the manufacturing and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of new hardware or software tools into the production line
Requirements:
Able to commit to a full-time internship program for 10-12 weeks during summer of 2026
Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program, or a recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
Demonstrated experience designing or implementing process automation through previous internships, academic projects, or lab work
Experience using data to identify process inefficiencies and proposing hardware or software-based solutions
Ability to document technical workflows and present project proposals to engineering leadership
Nice to have:
Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for designing custom fixtures or tooling
Familiarity with automated visual inspection systems or liquid handling robotics
Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles
