The Role The Manufacturing Engineering Designer for General Assembly (GA) supports the development of next-generation, manufacturing-driven product designs, automation enablers, and assembly solutions. This role is embedded within the Solutioning Left / Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team and focuses on translating manufacturing requirements into high-quality, production-ready product enables and tooling CAD designs. Operating as a hands-on technical contributor, the Designer partners with Manufacturing Technical Specialists (MTS), Product Engineering, and AVDC teams to develop NX math models, tooling concepts, and integrated system layouts that enable Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Automated Assembly (DFAA), reduce part complexity, improve manufacturability, and reduce Manufacturing Cost per Unit (MCPU).

Job Responsibility

  • Develop and maintain high-quality Siemens NX math models, including criteria and typical sections for product and GA tool design solutions
  • Create parametric models that support part reduction, automation, and assembly efficiency
  • Release accurate and complete math data aligned to program timing and company standards
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing ( DFM), DFA, and DFAA principles to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, and automation.
  • Integrate tooling designs, component Assembly readiness, and subsystem math into GA stations, considering plant conveyor types and characteristics, as well as full vehicle and/or system-level layouts.
  • Maintain assembly specifications within CAD models, including dimensional requirements and attributes.
  • Support virtual integration activities to validate manufacturability and system fit (support virtual build events).
  • Partner with MTS, Product Engineers, and Technical Leads to translate requirements into design solutions
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews and virtual builds
  • Perform NX-based analysis (with technical guidance) and incorporate results into design updates
  • Communicate proactively on design status, risks, and manufacturing technical challenges
  • Stay current with NX advancements (Siemens product), AutoCAD (Autodesk product) methodologies, and product updates
  • Capture and apply lessons learned to improve design best practices
  • Contribute to development of team standards, criteria, and reusable design frameworks

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in CAD design or engineering design (automotive or mechanical systems preferred)
  • Strong proficiency in Siemens NX (3D modeling, parametric design, assembling and draft)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Autodesk product (production plant layout and 2D layouts)
  • Solid understanding of: GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Solid understanding of: DFM/DFA/DFAA principles
  • Solid understanding of: Subsystem and assembly integration
  • Experience creating and managing complex assemblies and production-feasible designs
  • Ability to interpret manufacturing requirements and translate them into 3D modeling solutions
  • Self-directed and resourceful in solving design challenges with a focus on simplicity
  • Communicates technical concepts, risks, and progress clearly and effectively to leaders at all levels.

Nice to have

  • 2+ complete projects cycles of experience in manufacturing engineering, operations, or launch execution specially on vehicle development
  • Experience in tooling and/or manufacturing equipment design
  • Exposure to CAE / simulation workflows and design validation processes
  • Experience supporting virtual integration and cross-functional design reviews
  • Familiarity with automotive product development and manufacturing environments, especially on GA.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related technical field
