At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. The Role The Manufacturing Engineering Designer for General Assembly (GA) supports the development of next-generation, manufacturing-driven product designs, automation enablers, and assembly solutions. This role is embedded within the Solutioning Left / Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team and focuses on translating manufacturing requirements into high-quality, production-ready product enables and tooling CAD designs. Operating as a hands-on technical contributor, the Designer partners with Manufacturing Technical Specialists (MTS), Product Engineering, and AVDC teams to develop NX math models, tooling concepts, and integrated system layouts that enable Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Automated Assembly (DFAA), reduce part complexity, improve manufacturability, and reduce Manufacturing Cost per Unit (MCPU).
Job Responsibility:
Develop and maintain high-quality Siemens NX math models, including criteria and typical sections for product and GA tool design solutions
Create parametric models that support part reduction, automation, and assembly efficiency
Release accurate and complete math data aligned to program timing and company standards
Apply Design for Manufacturing ( DFM), DFA, and DFAA principles to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, and automation.
Integrate tooling designs, component Assembly readiness, and subsystem math into GA stations, considering plant conveyor types and characteristics, as well as full vehicle and/or system-level layouts.
Maintain assembly specifications within CAD models, including dimensional requirements and attributes.
Support virtual integration activities to validate manufacturability and system fit (support virtual build events).
Partner with MTS, Product Engineers, and Technical Leads to translate requirements into design solutions
Participate in and contribute to design reviews and virtual builds
Perform NX-based analysis (with technical guidance) and incorporate results into design updates
Communicate proactively on design status, risks, and manufacturing technical challenges
Stay current with NX advancements (Siemens product), AutoCAD (Autodesk product) methodologies, and product updates
Capture and apply lessons learned to improve design best practices
Contribute to development of team standards, criteria, and reusable design frameworks
Requirements:
5+ years of experience in CAD design or engineering design (automotive or mechanical systems preferred)
Strong proficiency in Siemens NX (3D modeling, parametric design, assembling and draft)
Proficiency in AutoCAD Autodesk product (production plant layout and 2D layouts)
