As a Manufacturing Engineer (NPI) at NTS Hengelo, you are part of the NPI team consisting of 20 FTEs including project leaders/managers, manufacturing engineers, and technical specialists. You report to the NPI Manager. Together, you are responsible for the technical feasibility and process design of new high-tech products within our machining environment for the Semiconductor and Analytical market. You operate in the heart of the technical chain: from design to series production. You analyze complex tolerances, material properties, and critical product characteristics and translate them into a robust, reproducible production process. You actively participate in the design phase (Design for Manufacturing) and provide substantive input to customers and internal project teams. You are close to production. You gather knowledge from operators, understand the dynamics of the shop floor, and translate practical experience into structural process improvements. Specialised colleagues handle programming, calculation, and drawing work; you focus entirely on technical process control, optimisation, and assurance.
Job Responsibility:
Translating complex customer specifications into a technically manageable production approach
Setting up and optimising production processes within high-tech machining
Analysing process data (SPC, CPK, machine performance) and initiating structural improvements
Intensively collaborating with operators and production to continuously improve manufacturability and process stability
Being the technical point of contact within NPI projects and jointly responsible for predictable and qualitatively stable series production.
Requirements:
HBO or WO level of education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar
Strong technical insight into manufacturability, tolerances, and metalworking
Affinity with or experience in a high-tech production environment, preferably machining
Knowledge of quality methodologies such as SPC, CPK, PFMEA, and root cause analyses is a plus
Analytical ability to translate design choices into process impact
Strong communication skills and ability to effectively switch between engineering and the shop floor
Good command of the English language in speech and writing due to drawings, work instructions, and communication on the shop floor.
Nice to have:
Knowledge of quality methodologies such as SPC, CPK, PFMEA, and root cause analyses is a plus.
