Job Description

As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Machina Labs, you’ll work with a dynamic team to evaluate, design, and optimize manufacturing processes that power next-generation robotics and automation. You will gain hands-on experience implementing tooling, conducting process improvement studies, supporting the build and testing of hardware, and providing actionable feedback to the engineering team. This is a collaborative, fast-paced role ideal for aspiring engineers passionate about digital fabrication and manufacturing excellence.

Job Responsibility

  • Help evaluate designs for manufacturability and perform testing, collaborating actively with the design and production teams
  • Assist in designing and implementing tooling and test solutions that support hardware build and delivery
  • Contribute to developing new processes and procedures for manufacturing operations and flight hardware builds
  • Participate in time studies, layout refinement, and capacity modeling initiatives to drive process improvements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot production challenges and resolve product non-conformances
  • Document technical procedures, experiments, and analyses for knowledge-sharing and process improvement

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM field
  • Expected to complete or have completed final degree within one year of the internship’s end
  • Practical experience with CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles and interest in building physical hardware
  • Effective communicator
  • able to work in cross-functional teams and contribute to technical discussions
  • Detail-oriented, enthusiastic about hands-on work and continuous improvement in manufacturing
  • GPA of 3.0 or above preferred

Nice to have

  • Previous internship, research, or project-based experience in manufacturing, robotics, or process engineering
  • Familiarity with time studies, process documentation, and statistical analysis tools (MATLAB, Excel, Python)
