MJ Quinn is a UK-based infrastructure services provider specialising in delivering comprehensive, end-to-end solutions across a range of industries, including telecommunications, utilities, and mechanical and electrical engineering. The Managing Quantity Surveyor will lead the quantity surveying team in the Energy and Critical Infrastructure division, a multi-disciplined integrated service provider headquartered in Liverpool, specialising in the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead the quantity surveying team in overseeing commercial aspects of engineering projects, ensuring effective contract management, financial control, and value optimisation
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities

  • Emotional intelligence, fostering trust and cooperation among team members and stakeholders
  • Adaptability and resilience in handling multiple projects and shifting priorities

Requirements:

  • In-depth understanding of industry standards, regulations, and best practices in commercial management
  • Awareness of construction costs, and industry developments
  • Proficiency in commercial management software and tools
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Demonstrable experience of commercially managing complex projects using NEC and JCT
  • Highly effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Outstanding organisational and time management skills, managing multiple tasks and priorities
  • Advanced conflict resolution, emotional awareness and resilience in handling challenging situations

  • Report directly to the Head of Commercial, ensuring proactive cost control and commercial governance across all projects
  • Provide regular commercial updates and financial reports to the Head of Commercial
  • Prepare and deliver accurate monthly and ad-hoc financial reports aligned with required reporting periods, ensuring precise tracking of revenues, costs, risks and opportunities. Evaluate, negotiate, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of cost forecasts, budget variances, and commercial KPIs
  • Escalate significant commercial risks or issues to senior management with recommended actions
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and insights
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors, ensuring high performance and professional growth through the provision of objectives, responsibilities, and accountabilities, managing performance accordingly
  • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews, and appraisals
  • Identify training needs and support continuous professional development within the team, to support development plans and career progression
