The Managing Director Project Engineering ensures Alaska Airlines maintains full technical compliance with regulatory requirements, to support safe and reliable operations across all Maintenance & Engineering project engineering initiatives. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team managing Engineering projects and programs. This role is responsible for leading change and transformation within Maintenance & Engineering through effective project integration, aircraft program management, and implementation of modern systems, tools, and processes that support fleet growth, scalability, and long-term operational efficiency.
Job Responsibility:
Establish strategic goals and direction for delivering projects on time and on budget
Set long-term strategy for Interiors and Projects engineering, Fleet Managers, Inflight Connectivity and Entertainment
Directs the day-to-day operations of the Interiors and Cabins Systems departments
Partners with peers in Maintenance, Engineering, Materials, Quality, Planning, Supply Chain, Commercial, Cargo and other departments
Provides leadership and direction to ensure high performance standards/culture are maintained
Influences decisions across the company by providing strategic recommendations
Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback
Drive effective practices to build a culture of belonging
Influence company culture through action, presence, and reinforcement of behavior
Oversees critical division-wide initiatives such as reliability and standardization.
Requirements:
10 years of progressive experience in an airline engineering organization managing multi-aircraft type fleets
5 years of people leadership experience
Bachelor’s degree of Science, with a focus in an engineering field such as aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or willingness to attain a Bachelor’s degree within six years of start date
Extensive knowledge of both airline engineering and aircraft maintenance practices
Knowledge of FAA regulations and practices, with the ability to build positive working relationships with regulators and industry policymakers
Proven track record of delivering measurable operational outcomes through leadership of large, cross-functional technical teams
Demonstrated ability to influence change and initiate actions that have strategic impact and drive a high performance culture
Strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills
Sound, strategic thinker with a track record of demonstrating good judgement, strong business acumen, and executing plans with a sense of urgency and a mind for safety
Demonstrated knowledge of continuous improvement techniques
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Minimum age of 18
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Nice to have:
PMP, PgMP or similar project management certification
Continuous improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma certification
A Master of Business Administration degree.
