Job Description

This role sits within Mastercard’s Product Development organization as part of the API Developer Experience capability. The mission of the role is to dogfood Mastercard APIs and developer platforms by overseeing realistic, end‑to‑end integrations executed by a development team, evaluating products exactly as external customers would experience them. The team improves Mastercard products by building authentic customer simulations and running real‑world API implementations that mirror how issuers, fintechs, merchants, acquirers, and partners integrate Mastercard services. The role works across a broad portfolio of Mastercard products, with a strong focus on Services and Open Banking / Open Finance, while also supporting core payments, digital products (e.g., Click to Pay), and other API‑driven platforms. With a global remit and high visibility across Product and Technology, this role sits at the intersection of technology, product, and customer experience, translating hands‑on integration findings into clear, actionable insights that drive measurable improvements across Mastercard’s ecosystem. Success in this role is defined by materially improving the ease, speed, and quality of developer integrations through disciplined dogfooding and evidence‑based recommendations.

Job Responsibility

  • Own and lead the dogfooding of Mastercard APIs and developer platforms, overseeing realistic, end‑to‑end integrations performed by a dedicated development team
  • Represent the external customer point of view by managing a suite of applications that simulate real‑world Mastercard customers (issuers, fintechs, merchants, acquirers, PSPs)
  • Own the end‑to‑end developer integration experience, from discovery and onboarding through authentication, implementation, testing, and production‑like scenarios
  • Oversee integrations conducted without internal shortcuts, ensuring tooling, documentation, and constraints mirror external customer realities
  • Lead multiple concurrent initiatives, from initial scoping through execution, synthesis of findings, and stakeholder readouts
  • Document integration journeys in depth, capturing friction points, decision paths, workarounds, errors, and usability gaps
  • Produce high‑signal artifacts such as: Developer journey maps
  • API usability and consistency assessments
  • Documentation and onboarding gap analyses
  • Prioritized developer pain‑point inventories
  • Translate technical observations into clear, prioritized, actionable recommendations for Product, Engineering, and Developer Experience teams
  • Act as an internal proxy for external developers, advocating for simplicity, clarity, and consistency across APIs, tooling, and documentation
  • Identify recurring themes across integrations and elevate them into platform‑level and ecosystem‑level insights, not just point fixes
  • Influence internal stakeholders across Product, Technology, and Delivery to drive customer‑focused improvements based on real integration evidence
  • Present findings and recommendations to cross‑functional teams and senior / executive‑level stakeholders
  • Track the adoption and impact of recommendations to ensure feedback translates into meaningful product improvements

Requirements

  • Strong technical foundation, with experience integrating APIs or working closely with developer teams
  • Background in software engineering, solution architecture, technical product/program management, or technical implementation roles
  • Experience with API onboarding, implementation, and technical documentation
  • Comfortable explaining technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Confident managing complex stakeholders and constructively pushing back with developers when needed
  • Experience in payments, Open Banking, Open Finance, or financial services is a strong plus, but not mandatory
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with strong presentation and communication skills
  • Comfortable presenting to cross‑functional and executive audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
