Within the Enterprise Risk Management & Risk Oversight Group in GRC, Enterprise Risk Management & Strategic Initiatives is the independent risk management team that plays a pivotal role in identification, assessment and mitigation of risks affecting the organization. The team’s core responsibility is to design, implement and oversee risk measurement & management frameworks at American Express. Manager – Enterprise Risk Management & Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for providing independent oversight and effective challenge on risk-related matters across the organization. This individual will work closely with senior management and business units to ensure effective identification, assessment and mitigation of risks across the enterprise.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assisting in the development of risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures to strengthen enterprise-wide risk practices
  • Conducting risk assessments on Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), including due diligence review, integration risk management, and ongoing monitoring
  • Supporting the development of risk governance framework for Joint Ventures and ensuring controls for heightened risk areas
  • Performing Climate Risk-related assessments, including end to end measurement of physical and transition risk, scenario analysis, and supporting disclosure requirements
  • Conducting peer benchmarking and research on industry-wide best practices to recommend enhancements for effective risk management and risk oversight
  • Supporting a variety of strategic projects within the Enterprise Risk Management team to enhance risk identification and measurement capabilities

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in finance, statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, economics, operations research, or a related field
  • 4-7 years of experience in risk management, banking, finance, or management consulting
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, frameworks, and regulatory requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Effectively develops presentation materials with clear, concise, and compelling messaging for Senior Management, the Board, and external regulators
  • Proven ability to deliver high quality, error-free documents

Experience with Python/SAS/R is a plus
