The Manager Pharmacy oversees the day to day operations of the various pharmacy areas pursuant to the distribution, administration and drug information of medication provided throughout the hospital. This individual ensures the utilization of medication safety principles to assure positive therapeutic outcomes.
Job Responsibility:
Manages various personnel functions such as hiring, training, performance appraisals, coaching, rounding, disciplinary actions and terminations
Provides direction and guidance for the safe processing and dispending of all medications for assigned area, which may include the dispensing of intravenous medications in the IV Sterile manufacturing area
Oversees repackaging of all medications. May oversee compounding of specialty products, including the preparation of TPN, chemotherapy, or specialty Intravenous solutions as necessary throughout the hospital, depending on assigned area
Develops and implements systems and procedures to maintain an efficient and effective workflow within the pharmacy and/or assigned areas
Interfaces with appropriate department, medical, nursing and other staff members to coordinate, review, revise and implement Pharmacy policies and procedures as needed
Ensures the department is in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations

Addresses issues or services requiring intradepartmental coordination proactively, using rounding techniques
Ensures an adequate inventory of pharmacy products and supplies to meet department demands, and ensures proper storage of supplies. Monitors usage and accurate charging for inventory purposes
May be required to coordinate the distribution of scheduled medications to various nursing stations throughout the hospital
May coordinate in conjunction with the research coordinator all inpatient studies processed in assigned area
Ensures the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste
Exchanges information and provides input for inter-and-intra departmental meetings
Serves on a rotating basis, as on-call Administrator to handle problems that arise evenings and weekends
Maintains adequate documentation to satisfy JCAHO requirements or other regulatory agencies
Performs other related duties
Requirements:
Graduate from an accredited school of Pharmacy (ACPE)
Advanced degree, Graduate of a PGY1 residency preferred
4 years hospital pharmacy and/or clinical experience, management experience preferred
Current New York State Pharmacist License – New York State Department of Education
