Job Description:

24 hour accountability for a unit area. The major responsibilities are in providing leadership and communication, monitoring the work environment, assuring quality, managing the fiscal budget, managing human resources and ensuring the delivery of competent clinical practice.

  • Support and actualizes the Division of Nursing philosophy and goals by assuming leadership in program development and implementation
  • Facilitates development and implementation to solution to problems
  • Develops and Implements effective communication channels
  • Directs and Participates in the orientation of new employees
  • Has an identified council structure
  • Conducts unit council meetings monthly
  • Has a positive working relationship and problem solving with other members of the patient care delivery team
  • Participates in committees and task forces as indicated
  • Demonstrates positive leadership skills and communication
  • Promotes a caring helpful environment
  • Participates in unit, service and divisional CQI/CQE programs
  • Meets established research-based standards of care
  • Develops a multidisciplinary program to monitor quality patient care indicators
  • Maintains fiscal budget within established variance
  • Adjusts staffing patterns according to unit activity and patient acuity
  • Reviews fiscal Worksheet, analyzing variances and implementing appropriate action plans
  • Develops and Manages the unit budget
  • Facilitates professional growth and development of staff
  • Demonstrates accountability for human and material resource management
  • Complies with personnel policies and procedures

  • Maintains clinical exposure

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (BSN) in Nursing with a minimum of 3 years leadership experience
  • or Master's degree with Clinical experience preferred
  • Registered Nurse: TX (RN:TX)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) within 14 days
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months

  • Chair the entity stroke committee in collaboration with medical leadership
  • Oversee the care of stroke patients in collaboration with other members of the health care team to meet all care standards per UH stroke clinical practice guidelines and regulatory requirements
  • Respond to stroke alerts to provide support to staff and expedite patient care
  • Develop and provide education related to the care of stroke patients to physicians, nursing staff, ancillary staff, support staff, and EMS
  • Abstract data to meet all regulatory requirements for stroke certification and to provide feedback to the interdisciplinary team
  • Analyze data and quality outcomes to identify trends and implement process improvement projects to improve the quality of care provided
  • Participate in the system stroke committee meetings and integrate system initiatives at the entity level
  • Facilitate community outreach risk screenings and educational programs related to stroke
