Job Description

Apex is seeking an experienced, hands-on technical leader to manage the team responsible for our Microsoft services ecosystem. As Manager, Microsoft Services & Cloud Administration, you will serve as the team's top technical resource—overseeing M365, Exchange Online, Entra ID, Azure administration, and related Microsoft cloud services. You will provide daily direction, support, and mentorship for a small team of System Administrators, ensuring alignment with best practices and enterprise standards. This role requires close partnership with our Identity team, who manage Okta SSO integration and identity lifecycles through our on-premises Active Directory infrastructure.

Job Responsibility

  • Directly lead and mentor System Administrators managing the Microsoft cloud services stack, including M365, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and related productivity services
  • Oversee Entra ID administration, including user and group management, conditional access policies, application registrations, and hybrid identity configuration
  • Act as the escalation point for highly technical issues across Microsoft 365, Azure, and Entra ID platforms
  • Organize and prioritize daily workload and project assignments for the team, ensuring timely completion of both operational tasks and project initiatives
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and feedback, and support professional development for team members
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for administrative tasks in Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, and Azure—maintaining deep technical proficiency across the Microsoft ecosystem
  • Partner closely with the Identity team on integration points between Entra ID, on-premises Active Directory, and Okta SSO—ensuring seamless identity lifecycle management and authentication flows
  • Oversee Exchange Online administration, including mailbox management, transport rules, compliance policies, and mail flow troubleshooting
  • Drive continual service improvements, including automation of provisioning and administrative processes through PowerShell, Graph API, and appropriate cloud management solutions
  • Manage security and compliance configuration across M365 services, including DLP policies, retention policies, and audit logging
  • Take ownership of service monitoring, incident response, root cause analysis, and problem resolution for Microsoft cloud services
  • Maintain documentation for standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and administrative workflows
  • Ensure systems meet or exceed established SLAs for uptime, compliance, and response times
  • Work closely with the Identity team to coordinate Entra ID/AD/Okta integration, user provisioning workflows, and SSO configurations
  • Collaborate with other IT teams—such as Security, Applications, and Infrastructure—to coordinate cross-team efforts
  • Deliver clear technical guidance and training for the team

  • Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field preferred
  • equivalent experience will be considered
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in IT systems administration, with deep focus on Microsoft cloud services
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience, including direct management or technical leadership of IT teams
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in M365 administration (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, user management, security, compliance, Intune, etc.)
  • Strong background in Azure administration, including resource management, monitoring, and cost optimization
  • Experience administering Entra ID for identity and access management, including hybrid identity scenarios and integration with on-premises Active Directory
  • Understanding of Okta SSO integration and identity federation patterns
  • ability to partner effectively with Identity teams
  • Experience with M365 security and compliance features, including DLP, retention policies, and eDiscovery
  • Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell required
  • experience with Microsoft Graph API highly valued) for automation of operational tasks
