The Manager, External Affairs is responsible for leading and supporting state-level legislative and regulatory advocacy initiatives that advance the interests of community-based healthcare organizations and rural healthcare providers. This individual will develop and implement advocacy strategies, cultivate relationships with key policymakers and stakeholders, and serve as a representative across multiple states.
Job Responsibility
Develop and execute state government affairs strategies that align with organizational objectives
Monitor, evaluate, and influence state legislation, regulations, and public policy developments
Prepare testimony, policy briefs, comment letters, position papers, and other advocacy materials
Build and maintain relationships with legislators, government agencies, industry associations, coalitions, and healthcare stakeholders
Represent the organization at legislative hearings, advisory committees, workgroups, and advocacy events
Perform additional duties as needed
Requirements
Minimum of five years of experience in state government relations, public affairs, or healthcare advocacy
Proven track record of influencing legislative, regulatory, or policy outcomes at the state level
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop persuasive advocacy materials
Experience creating policy-focused content that supports stakeholder engagement and advocacy efforts
Nice to have
Familiarity with healthcare technology and health IT initiatives is preferred
Experience working with community health centers, rural healthcare providers, or related healthcare organizations is highly desirable
