Job Description

The Environmental Manager position ensures that safe and cost-effective compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements are achieved and maintained throughout the mine site. The position provides planning, guidance and training to mine personnel and is responsible for all environmental monitoring (air, water, waste, etc.) and reporting as well as coordinating and managing reclamation efforts safely. Additionally, the position is the key point of contact for environmental regulatory and public relation communications.

Job Responsibility

  • Responsible for employees and contractors to follow and adhere to all safety rules and procedures
  • Ensure all policies and procedures meet all regulatory requirements
  • Responsible for reviewing, communicating, and developing plans for mine reclamation activities necessary for bond release applications
  • Responsible for contractor management (safety, costs, productivity, compliance with project and timeline) and oversight of contractor projects as needed
  • Responsible for environmental compliance with internal and external policies and regulations
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for all reclamation and environmental activities and governance
  • Inspects and guides the mine operations to ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and permit requirements
  • All reporting and monitoring requirements are met in most cost effectively manner
  • Act as Peabody's representative with environmental regulators and stake holders
  • Develops and communicates with public as needed to maintain positive relations for mining activities
  • Communicate and train regularly in environmental compliance activities with mine management, supervisors and technicians
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed (forecasts, budgets, projects, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned or required

Requirements

  • BS in Environmental related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Five (5) years of mining related experience or related activity with environmental focus
  • MSHA impoundment inspector with instructor qualification (required)
  • Visible Emissions certified EPA Method 9 (obtain within 6 months)
  • Wyoming Surface Mine Foreman (required)

Nice to have

  • Experience with regulatory and public relations
  • Two (2) years of direct supervision of employees and contractor management
  • Experience with computer software programs such as Microsoft Office, ArcGIS and AutoCAD
