Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise. We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to manage the Electrical Systems and Modeling team responsible for the architecture, requirements, modeling, and simulation of electrical power systems for Archer's next-generation eVTOL aircraft. You will lead a team of engineers ensuring system safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across HV/LV power systems, electric propulsion integration and power electronics.
Job Responsibility:
Define and architect the HV/LV power system accounting for safety, redundancy, isolation and grounding
Develop requirements for electrical subsystems including inverters and rectifiers integrated within electric engines, generators, actuators, and auxiliary power systems
Lead power system modeling and analysis: HV ripple effects, short circuit protection, transient behavior, and thermal management
Manage technical engagement with suppliers including specification development, technical reviews, and assessments
Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure cohesive system integration and V&V planning and execution
Support functional safety analysis, WCCAs, FMEAs and compliance documentation (ARP4754, DO-178, DO-254, DO-160)
Lead design reviews and maintain technical documentation (Design Descriptions, Functional Design Specifications)
Build and mentor a high-performing team of electrical systems engineers to drive requirements
Make critical technical decisions balancing performance, safety, schedule, and certification constraints
Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to leadership, suppliers, and certification authorities
Requirements:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or related discipline
8+ years of experience in electrical system design for EV, aerospace, or similar high-reliability applications
3+ years of demonstrated people management experience
Strong background in systems engineering practices: requirements development, system decomposition, integration, and V&V
Experience using requirements management tools such as Polarion or DOORS
Experience with electrical system modeling tools (MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice)
Proven ability to lead teams through ambiguity and competing priorities
Strong technical communication and stakeholder management skills
Track record of developing engineering talent and building collaborative team culture
Nice to have:
Development experience for eVTOL or aerospace-grade electrical systems
PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline
Familiarity with certification and compliance standards: DO-160, DO-254, or ARP4754
