Job Description:

Manager, Design Research at Capital One. This is a Hybrid position located in Plano, TX. Relocation to Plano, TX is required if you're not located in the Dallas, TX area. At Capital One, we’re building a leading information-based technology company. Capital One’s Experience Design organization is focused on co-creating memorable, meaningful customer and associate experiences that build our brand with humanity and drive business advantage. The goal of Experience Design Research is to accelerate teams’ learning velocity. We do this by conducting primary research studies, assessments, and testing. Additionally, we oversee democratized research/testing conducted by others. A key aspect of our role is to find and synthesize existing research and data to help teams acquire the knowledge they seek to make informed decisions. As a Design Research leader, you are primarily responsible for translating key business drivers into comprehensive research strategies and ensuring insights are leveraged for maximum impact.

Job Responsibility:

  • Learning Objective Clarity: Consults with Product teams to create and maintain clear research agendas and roadmaps
  • Research Execution: Selects the most effective research methods and produces comprehensive research plans
  • Expert Analysis: Applies expertise in human factors and human behavior to analyze and synthesize research data
  • Actionable Recommendations: Authors useful, pragmatic, and concrete recommendations
  • Scaled Impact: Increases the altitude and aperture of research to create additional leverage
  • Enablement: Leads Consult Hours and ad hoc consultations to advise non-researchers on method selection and research approach
  • Results Focus: Translates business goals into clear, measurable objectives
  • Influence: Influences the strategic direction of a product area with cross functional teams
  • Collaboration: Sets clear expectations for teamwork and mutual support
  • Communication: Presents work across levels and job functions using a human-centered approach

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience conducting user experience research in a corporate environment
  • At least 5 years of experience conducting quantitative research, qualitative research, or a combination of both
  • At least 4 years of experience conducting data analysis (such as: survey data, behavioral analytics, etc.)
  • At least 7 years managing user experience research in a corporate environment
  • At least 4 years experience working and influencing senior level executives

  • Subconsultant (architects, engineers, geotech, etc.) management during design and construction. Including all necessary management of the design phase for the preparation of design development sets (50/90, 30/60/90, etc.), bid and permit sets, IFC sets, and as built drawings
  • Bid Phase Assistance – Work with Estimators to Provide RFI Responses in a Timely Fashion, Work with Design Subs to Ensure Complete and Accurate RFI Responses are Provided, identify any Permitting/Project Fees Required for Estimating Team, Review Drawing and Submittal Logs.
  • Document review during design development, including quality control/quality assurance, plan review, assisting with specifications and material selections, etc.
  • Metal Building Systems (PEMB) coordination and management during design including RFP support, drawing review, coordination of design features (foundation reactions, design details, anchor bolt layouts, etc.), etc.
  • Management of design administration during construction phase. Review and Release Submittals and RFI’s in a Timely Fashion. Coordinate with Construction Team in preparing close out documentation as builts and record drawings. Participate in and attend Construction Team Project Close Out Meeting.
