We are looking for an experienced Manager, Data Governance to lead enterprise data governance efforts for a higher education organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This role will shape the framework, policies, and operating model that improve data quality, accountability, and compliance across departments. The ideal candidate brings deep experience guiding governance programs in complex environments and can connect technical data issues to practical institutional impact.
Job Responsibility:
Create and maintain enterprise data governance standards, policy documentation, and operating procedures that support consistent data practices across the organization
Partner with data stewards and business stakeholders to roll out governance processes covering metadata, cataloging, data quality, privacy, and policy adoption
Work closely with technology teams to evaluate, implement, and optimize governance platforms and supporting data management tools
Review datasets and data definitions to detect quality concerns, resolve inconsistencies, and strengthen trust in institutional information
Build governance structures and decision-making forums that address cross-functional dependencies, escalate issues, and reinforce compliance expectations
Lead governance councils, working groups, and project teams to coordinate initiatives, assign ownership, and drive alignment on shared data priorities
Develop and execute short- and long-range data governance plans that support organizational goals and sustainable program maturity
Monitor adherence to governance policies and promote the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data assets throughout the enterprise
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a technical field, data science, or a closely related discipline
Approximately 10 or more years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, or a comparable area
Demonstrated success leading multiple data governance initiatives within large, complex organizations
Strong ability to explain data-related risks in business terms that support informed decision-making
Proven skill in building productive relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders
Working knowledge of data governance practices, frameworks, and enabling technologies
Nice to have:
Advanced degree in data science, analytics, quantitative studies, or another technical discipline
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Purview, Fabric, and Synapse
