Job Responsibility
Lead the operation in safety. Clearly demonstrate and execute safety leadership that prioritizes employee safety and creates a culture of safety within the operation
Leads a diverse range of key technical functions that support the operations in areas including but not limited to, geosciences, mine planning, tailings, and survey. Understand the objectives of mining and processing, and the required technical work required by these areas to deliver in a sustainable way
Co-ordinates technical service programs of work that enhance the life of the asset, and the quality and delivery of production. Technical activities and programs will be both short term, routine technical work, as well as well as medium term. Problem solving or enhancement pieces of work, all intended to focus on technical excellence in support of the operations
Generate and deliver detailed reports on technical performance, covering progress, safety incidents, and efficiency metrics
Drive adherence to company policies and industry standards in all technical services-related activities. Governance function for the site to hold execution teams accountable for delivering to plan or design. Need to ensure all regulatory requirements are met in all technical services delivered
Interface with Mining and Processing to understand key support and service requirements, as well as to drive key technical initiatives. Interface with the Business Unit and the Enterprise technical organization to integrate and deliver technical work and expertise. and initiatives on site
Engage with Sustaining Capital Projects to inform capital plans and budgeting
Identify key performance indicators for technical services and analyze data to uncover trends, variances, and areas for improvement. Conduct risk assessments, develop management systems to manage identified risks, and verify that the associated actions are being completed
Lead a team of operators, technicians, and supervisors in the technical areas. Articulate, role model, and drive a culture of health and safety across all areas of Operations. Act as a leader, coach, and mentor in all areas of technical expertise, safety, people leadership, and expected behaviors. Build current and future capability through training, talent management, and development pathways
Form part of the site leadership team, actively contributing to overall site leadership, culture, and site delivery, with focus and responsibility for the technical portfolio, service delivery, safety, and teams
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical or a related Mining discipline. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master’s or PhD) may be preferred
Advanced English (spoken and written) and Spanish are a must
Several years of experience in operational leadership roles, with a progression through roles of increasing responsibility
Advanced ability to interact, influence, and resolve conflict with various stakeholders, including employees, contractors, regulators, and the community
Advanced understanding of Geological, Geotechnical, and Planning. Advanced strategic thinking with the ability to align technical services with the strategic vision and objectives of the site. Advanced knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics in Geological, Geotechnical and Planning areas
Advanced skills in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with Technical Services
Competent understanding of the latest technologies and innovations across Geological, Geotechnical, and Planning areas. Advanced knowledge of health, safety, environment, and sustainability regulations and practices. Competent understanding of cost management and financial principles in mining.Advanced skills in planning
Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage, develop, and motivate teams
Experience leading cross-functional projects and collaborating with other areas
Experience managing contractors and outsourced service providers
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Ability to work effectively in remote industrial or mining environments
The position will require travel to appropriate locations (Mostly Cajamarca/Site and Lima) to support the operation
The position will require periodic living in the Yanacocha camp
The person must be in good health and physical condition to work in the field in various climatic conditions and at altitudes of up to 4,000 meters above sea level
The incumbent may be required to travel and assist other sites nationally and internationally
