Job Description:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Maître d' to join the team at Michelin* HIDE. HIDE is an urban oasis from the bustling world, hidden in plain sight. Spread over three floors, two light-filled dining rooms are set around a breath-taking central staircase and enjoy tranquil views over Green Park. Serving breakfast, lunch & dinner, a sizeable a la carte menu showcases the very best seasonal offerings, largely sourced from a close network of small farmers & suppliers from across the UK. A tasting menu with matching wine flights is also available on both floors. The Maître d’ is the first point of contact for every guest and plays a pivotal role in ensuring an exceptional dining experience. This individual will not only welcome guests at the door but also act as a floating presence throughout service, engaging with diners, building rapport, and ensuring satisfaction at every stage. The role is essential in supporting the management team, recognising and acknowledging VIP and regular guests, and upholding the restaurant’s high standards of hospitality.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage the cloakroom and oversee guest belongings with the utmost care and discretion
  • Act as a floating manager during service: circulate through the dining room, entertain guests, monitor their satisfaction, and proactively anticipate needs
  • Build and maintain lasting relationships with guests, recognising VIPs and regular clientele, and ensuring their preferences are remembered and respected
  • Support the management team by checking guest satisfaction throughout service and escalating concerns where appropriate
  • Handle any issues or complaints with diplomacy and efficiency, ensuring prompt resolution and guest reassurance
  • Print and prepare daily menus, service reports, and guest lists, ensuring accuracy and presentation
  • Manage reservations and guest communications through the 7Rooms system
  • Handle payments, including deposits, and send secure payment links when required
  • Oversee point-of-sale transactions using the Horizon POS system
  • Answer and manage telephone calls and emails with professionalism and efficiency
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the menu, beverages, and pairings to confidently advise and guide guests
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the restaurant’s identity, design, suppliers, and ethos in order to communicate its values to guests
  • Inform and guide guests regarding current offers, private dining options, and minimum spend policies for event hire
  • Assist the front-of-house team with opening and closing duties, ensuring readiness and precision at all times
  • Guarantee that the restaurant remains guest-ready, pristine, and perfectly presented throughout every service
  • Uphold and embody flawless grooming and presentation standards at all times

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience as a Maître d’, Head Host/Hostess, or senior front-of-house role within a Michelin-starred or luxury hospitality environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a refined guest-first mindset
  • Strong leadership presence, able to support and work seamlessly with the management team
  • Confident in using 7Rooms and Horizon POS (or equivalent systems)
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume service while maintaining calm, poise, and attention to detail
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fine dining service protocols, food, wine, and beverage pairings
  • Highly organised with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate guest needs
  • Impeccable personal grooming and professional presentation
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays
