Requirements

Minimum DZ license in good standing
Experience in Provincial and or Municipal highway maintenance field
Helpful, friendly and courteous with the public, regulatory agencies and peers
Punctual, willing to work shift work and be willing to work during all seasons/weather
Physically able to meet all requirements and perform satisfactorily all highway maintenance and emergency assignments in a manner that promotes cost effective operations, staff co-operation and working in a safe and environmentally friendly manner at all times
Satisfactory drug pre-screening and Driver’s Abstract

Job Responsibility

Carrying out all assigned routine/non-routine summer and winter highway maintenance operations and activities undertaken from designated patrol centers
Work assignments will include shift work and overtime as required
May be required to become a night patroller for the winter season
Performing activities during the winter season that include but not limited to plowing, sanding/salting, grading, shovelling, etc…
Performing activities such as traffic control, emergency responses, highway surface maintenance, right-of-way maintenance (fence repair, litter pick-up, grass cutting, shrub/tree maintenance, embankment repair, etc…), highway patrolling, shoulder maintenance/grading, drainage maintenance, etc…
Other duties as assigned

High school diploma or acceptable equivalent
Minimum of one year as a Distribution & Collection Maintenance Worker I or one year of similar work experience and/or a combination thereof
Ability to safely and effectively operate various types of equipment (e.g., mini-excavator, backhoe, front end loader, combination jet/vacuum truck, flush truck, boom truck, valve exercising machine, dump trucks, tractors, service truck cranes, skid-steer loader, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws)

Job Responsibility

Inspects and repairs meters, connections, and main breaks
Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activity
Determines location of all utility lines prior to excavation
Responds to complaints (i.e. leaks, pressure loss, no water, sewer backups, odor), evaluates situation and completes remediation and/or explains findings to supervisor
Contacts customers in area where services will be temporarily discontinued
Ensures proper maintenance of equipment by cleaning and checking equipment after use
Drives trucks of various sizes and weights to load, haul and unload equipment or materials
Makes taps, installs new mains and services and disinfects water mains
Inspects and performs preventive maintenance on equipment
Operates all construction and power equipment with efficiency
