Job Description:

Alaska X is a leading provider of shore excursions in southeast Alaska, operating many different tours/activities and building virtually all of the elements of excursion experiences in-house including retail buildings, zip-lines, suspension bridges, remote cabins, docks, and many other structures for commercial purposes. The company is dynamic and works on different projects frequently, with its own sawmill and a hydro-electric project. The Maintenance Technician works in diverse settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products, contributing to the construction and maintenance of strong and long-lasting buildings and products.

Job Responsibility:

Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp requirements
Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other material (e.g., fiberglass) according to measurements
Build window frames, doors, staircases, and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items
Lay out floorings, roofing, or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible
Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves, and other items and install them where designated
Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance
Build scaffolding and other construction structures
Perform general maintenance on buildings, equipment, and properties
Support summer seasonal operations hosting approximately 150 staff

Requirements:

Certified or able to attain certification in First Aid/CPR
Able to lift up to 50 lbs
Legally eligible to work in the US
21 years or older
Valid driver’s license
Good knowledge of all tools required for carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, painting, and general maintenance
Ability to work with little supervision while following all health and safety standards
Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches
Ability to take measurements and calculate material needed
