Job Description:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and within the framework of district policy, the Maintenance Mechanic performs skilled work in the general maintenance and repair of site and building infrastructure. Work is performed under general supervision. Assignments are received in the form of oral or written preventive maintenance instructions or work orders.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performs skilled or semi-skilled tasks for the maintenance and repair of site and building infrastructure
  • Maintains, repairs, or replaces a variety of building and site equipment and components
  • Makes adjustments, lubricates, repairs and replaces worn out site and building components
  • Assists other Maintenance trades
  • Communicates and coordinates problem resolution with schools, district staff and outside contractors
  • Installs and repairs irrigation systems, maintains grass and synthetic turf fields, and maintains building landscape areas
  • Repairs fences, concrete, asphalt, playground / sports equipment and other site infrastructure
  • Responds to call outs for emergencies and snow removal. Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure
  • Carries out oral and written directions. Accurately documents work performed on work orders defining problem and solution. Enters time and Work Order numbers accurately on time cards
  • Makes repairs to equipment
  • tightens nuts and bolts, replaces worn parts, hangs and repairs doors, hardware, walls and ceilings
  • cement work, lays flooring, perform basic carpentry work
  • Conducts PM’s on facility and site, systems and equipment for maintenance and safety issues
  • makes repairs as required or provides recommendations to the District for correction
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year experience in: General Building Maintenance
  • Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English
  • Must pass post-offer physical
  • Currently hold a valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Ability to operate general power and hand tools
  • Ability to operate HEPA vacuum, core drill drywall tools
  • Must acquire ability to operate mowers, truck and other ground equipment within probationary period
  • Lifting 60 - 80 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis
  • Constant reaching, bending, stooping, ability to climb ladders, be on feet 8 hrs./day

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities or Construction
  • Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and materials used in several grounds and building maintenance and mechanical trades
  • Skilled in the use of common hand tools and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance and repair
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with other employees
  • Basic computer skills

  • Provide safe handling, feeding and care for livestock (variety of horses) according to Boyne Equestrian Centre Standards : stock round bales in feeders and apply hay nets when necessary, administer pelleted feeds and supplements according to the feeding chart, ensure clean water supply
  • Perform daily welfare check, and general horse care: monitor temperament, body and hoof condition, check for injuries and abnormal behavior. Bath, clip, apply fly spray, monitor for health concerns. Perform routine treatment and basic first aid. Blanket as necessary and perform blanket checks
  • Maintain cleanliness of Equestrian facilities and equipment, including but not limited to: clean feed buckets and pans, daily hand-mucking of corral, cleaning lean-tos and pastures by hand and by machinery, weed whipping while using proper PPE, cleaning hay storage, feed and tack up areas. Hand-pick, drag, rake and brush-hog pastures and trails. Reseed pastures. Perform manual snow removal and sanding of key areas as needed
  • Conduct tack and helmet safety check and keep records in the Equestrian Log. Disinfect helmets
  • Periodically replace wood chips and fill dirt in corral, pastures and lean-tos
  • Groom and tack up horses for trail and pony rides according to Boyne Equestrian Centre Standards
  • Act as a lead or drag rider on trail rides, lead pony rides. Encourage repeat patronage
  • Provide guests with a warm welcome, safe and memorable riding experiences. Assist with waiver completion and helmet fitting. Provide brief orientations and clearly communicate with guests. Match riders with horses. Assist with mounting, strirrup fitting and dismounting. Provide friendly and precise instructions during the ride to ensure safety. Possess the ability to answer most guest’s questions. Is knowledgeable about all ride products and their times. Ponys when necessary
  • Acclimate new horses to the string and trails. Ensure all horses are ready for guests to ride
