Job Description:

Harbour Healthcare are recruiting for a Maintenance Officer in Bristol, you primary aim is to ensure our care home is well maintained. Your role will include ensuring all legal documents are completed, to carry out day to day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds in order to ensure that the Care Centre is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order. You will also be required to be on call but only for Emergencies.

Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure ALL Legal documentation is completed on time
  • Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture / equipment and any other potential hazards to the Home Manager
  • Ensure the maintenance of the Care Centre’s exterior
  • Carry out any patching up or touching up of decoration
  • Test the fire alarm system, and log results, weekly
  • Ensure all ventilation units and lights are kept clean
  • Test all portable appliances
  • Test, and record, water temperatures
  • Maintain a Maintenance Book
  • Assist/supervise with deliveries
  • Liaise with Home Manager regarding maintenance work
  • Participate in Staff and Client meetings
  • Attend mandatory training days/courses
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence
  • Ensure paints and varnishes are used and stored safely
  • Ensure areas where painting/varnishing is done are well ventilated
  • Report immediately any illness or accident
  • Understand and ensure implementation of Health and Safety policy and Emergency and Fire procedures
  • Promote safe working practice

Requirements:

  • General maintenance knowledge / experience e.g. minor electrical, plumbing, joinery work etc.
  • Good communication skills
  • Confident team player
  • Clean driving licence
  • Use of a car or similar vehicle
  • Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety / EHO issues
  • Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)
  • Oversee the gardens also

Nice to have:

  • Understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot & cold water systems
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations

  • Follow all assigned fueling instructions
  • Fabricate new tools and equipment as needed
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules for all hatchery equipment such as hydroelectric turbine generators, diesel generators, front-end loaders, pickup trucks, gas pumps, outboard motors, welders, cement mixers, steam cleaners, pressure washers, snow removal equipment, and power tools
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure operational efficiency
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine solutions by referencing blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs
  • Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
  • Complete architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical system preventative maintenance as assigned
