Job Description:

The Mainframe Storage Administrator is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise mainframe storage systems. This role ensures high availability, performance, and data integrity across all storage platforms, supporting mission-critical business operations. The administrator collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement scalable storage solutions and troubleshoot complex issues.

  • Monitor and manage storage capacity, performance, and utilization
  • Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures to ensure data protection
  • Analyze storage performance metrics and resolve bottlenecks
  • Tune storage configurations for optimal throughput and reliability
  • Planning and execution of storage upgrades and migrations
  • Perform firmware updates, patching, and hardware lifecycle management
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., data retention, privacy)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in mainframe storage administration
  • Proficiency in z/OS, DFSMS, and related IBM storage technologies
  • Experience administering DASD, tape libraries, and virtual tape systems in a z/OS environment
  • Familiarity with SAN/NAS environments and enterprise backup tools (e.g., IBM Spectrum Protect)
  • Experience planning and performing upgrades, migrations, etc
  • Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning
