Job Description

As our Mail and Parcel Sorting Officer, you’ll be working at the Mackay Mail Centre where you’ll be responsible for manually sorting mail and parcels in preparation for delivery. You’ll play a key role in supporting our delivery network, who provide a vital service to our community every single day. You’ll be working together with a friendly team of like-minded people, and your community relies on you, and it doesn’t get better than that! A forklift licence is looked upon favourably for this job or willingness for Australia Post to upskill you and get your FL ticket. Shift patterns will vary week to week with majority of shifts started at 4pm however need all applicants to be available across all shifts: 4am - 11:51am / 4:30am - 12:21pm/ 6am - 1:51 pm / 10:30am - 6:21pm / 4pm - 11:51pm

Job Responsibility

  • Working efficiently individually or in a team to manually sort mail and parcels as they arrive and exit the facility
  • Lifting and handling heavy parcels and bags of mail regularly
  • Assisting with loading and unloading trucks at the Delivery Centre
  • Working around complex machinery and equipment (training provided)
  • Required to use manual pallet jacks and stackers to receive and despatch large volume of mail (training provided)
  • On your feet for the full shift doing very physical work and often repetitive tasks
  • Provided initial and ongoing training with senior team members who are committed to engage and take part in your professional development

Requirements

  • Flexible with working additional hours if required
  • Great memory, hand/eye coordination, and excellent attention to detail
  • Enjoy physical work indoors and can lift up to 16kgs of Mail and Parcels regularly
  • Ok to handle parcels and packages that may contain food products and alcohol
  • Experience operating manual pallet jacks or stackers is advantageous but not mandatory
