This is a part time role for 30 hours/week. We are seeking an experienced and motivated cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist ready to take the next step into a leadership position, with opportunities to influence service development and drive innovation in lung cancer care. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic nurse leader with a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to lead our Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team. You will have a key role in shaping the future of the lung cancer service, ensuring people affected by lung cancer receive exceptional support throughtout their cancer pathway. You will provide clinical leadership, professional guidance, and oversight for the specialist nursing team. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will maintain a clinical presence across the Trust, offering expert assessment, advice, and support to patients and carers. Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, you will ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care for people affected by lung cancer.
Job Responsibility
Promotes and develops the specialist advisory and supportive role of a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Lung Cancer
Demonstrate exemplar nursing practice, delivering high-quality, individualised, evidence-based care
Act as a Key Worker for patients with suspected or confirmed lung cancer, providing advanced clinical assessment, coordination, and continuity of care across the entire pathway
Use specialist clinical expertise to manage complex symptoms, treatment-related side effects, and supportive care needs
Provide skilled psychological support to patients and families
Advocate for patients and carers
Lead and deliver nurse-led clinics, including assessment, follow-up, education, treatment support, remote monitoring, and completion of end-of-treatment summaries
Requirements
Registered Nurse Level 1 registered with NMC
Speciality qualification at Masters Level or equivalent knowledge and experience (or working towards Masters)
Teaching & Assessing qualification or equivalent experience
Advanced Communication skills, Psychological level 2 training
Demonstrate evidence of on-going continuous professional development
Respiratory &/or oncology qualification
Psychological level 2 training
Significant post registration experience
Significant experience working at Band 6 working at a senior level
Experience in oncology and/or respiratory care
Experience in developing specialised programmes of care relevant to the speciality service
Experience in developing and training staff
Implementation of change to improve services/patient experience
Budget holder responsibility
Evidence of involvement in Clinical Governance
Health and Safety in relation to the speciality
Ability to lead clinical audit
Evidence of sound management and leadership experience
Nice to have
Leadership qualification
Working towards Master's qualification
Has a varied clinical background
Evidence of involvement in service users' advocacy and complaints resolution
