Job Responsibility

  • Examine lumber for defects such as knots, splits, and warping, and determine its grade based on industry standards
  • Assign grades to lumber pieces according to quality and usability guidelines
  • Sort lumber into appropriate categories for processing, storage, or shipping
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, quantities, and any issues identified during the grading process
  • Ensure all graded lumber meets company and industry quality standards before it reaches customers
  • Work closely with other team members, including quality control staff, to ensure consistent product quality

Requirements

  • Previous experience in lumber grading or a similar role in the wood products industry is a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Additional training or certification in lumber grading is a bonus
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and assess wood defects and qualities
  • Good understanding of lumber grades, species, and quality standards
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others
