Job Responsibility:
Provide high-quality instruction in ice skating techniques, including figure skating, hockey fundamentals, and recreational skating, tailored to varying skill levels
Develop lesson plans, training drills, and practice schedules to help skaters improve skills, strength, balance, and performance
Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing rink rules, monitoring sessions, and teaching safe skating practices
Evaluate skaters’ progress, give constructive feedback, and set achievable goals for skill development and performance
Foster a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment that motivates skaters of all ages and abilities
Prepare athletes for competitions, performances, or showcases, including choreography, routines, and conditioning
Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and program staff regarding student progress, scheduling, and expectations
Maintain certification, knowledge of best practices, and awareness of industry trends to deliver high-quality coaching
Support rink operations by assisting with events, exhibitions, and skating programs as needed
Maintain records for the skating program, including sign-in sheets, waivers, and payments
Clean and organize all areas to be used by skating students. This includes locker rooms, guest observation areas, and ice skate rental area
Keep skating equipment inventoried, maintained, organized in their proper storage spaces
Track and process payments of students, monitor the number of students for each class session. Reconcile payments and student numbers with total revenue daily
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required
college degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related field preferred
Prior experience as an ice skating coach, instructor, or competitive skater strongly preferred
Professional certifications (e.g., U.S. Figure Skating, Professional Skaters Association, or equivalent) highly desirable
Experience working with children, teens, and adults in recreational or competitive skating programs
Strong background in skating techniques, safety practices, and on-ice conditioning
CPR/First Aid certification preferred
Proficient in ice skating
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and inspire skaters of all ages and skill levels
Patience, adaptability, and a supportive coaching style that fosters confidence and growth
Ability to design and deliver structured lesson plans while ensuring safety and skill progression
Leadership and organizational skills to manage groups, coordinate practices, and prepare skaters for events or competitions
