Long-Term Secondary School Cover Supervisor. Location: Crawley and surrounding areas. Position Type: Full-Time, Long-Term Placement. Salary/Daily Rate: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience). Start Date: ASAP (As Soon As Possible). Job Responsibility

  • Classroom Supervision: Oversee classes across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (ages 11-18) during teacher absences, ensuring students remain focused and on-task with pre-set work
  • Behaviour Management: Effectively implement the school's behaviour policy, maintaining a positive, orderly atmosphere and dealing with any immediate issues promptly
  • Supporting Learning: Respond to general queries from students regarding their work, helping them access materials and stay engaged (no subject-specific teaching required)
  • Administrative Duties: Register student attendance and leave detailed, accurate notes for the returning teacher regarding lesson progress and behaviour
  • School Ethos: Act as a positive role model, promoting the school's values and maintaining high expectations for all students

Requirements

  • Confidence & Presence: Strong behaviour management skills and the confidence to lead a classroom of secondary students
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with teenagers
  • Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with groups of young people (e.g., school settings, youth work, coaching, camp leading)
  • Qualifications: A degree is advantageous, particularly for those considering future teacher training, but not essential
  • Traits: Reliability, punctuality, flexibility, and a collaborative approach to working across different schools and subject areas
  • Safeguarding: A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people (an enhanced DBS check will be required)
