Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Logistics and Store Operative to join us for an 18 month period to cover maternity leave. This person will take responsibility for our logistics and warehouse function in our Portsmouth Test & Evaluation Centre.

Job Responsibility

  • Stock & Inventory Management: Receiving and checking supplier deliveries
  • Organising and storing stock
  • Monitoring stock levels
  • Supporting returns
  • Picking, Dispatch & Operational Support: Picking and preparing parts
  • Supporting the ordering of parts
  • Arranging deliveries
  • Carrying out occasional low-level assembly tasks
  • Logistics & Shipping Coordination: Supporting coordination of shipments
  • Liaising with hauliers and suppliers
  • Assisting with obtaining shipping quotes
  • Flagging delays
  • Supplier & Stakeholder Management: Supporting communication with internal teams
  • Helping keep stakeholders informed
  • Assisting with tracking supplier performance
  • Continuous Improvement & Market Awareness: Flagging opportunities to improve processes
  • Supporting efforts to improve efficiency
  • Health, Safety & Ways of Working: Maintaining a clean, safe stores environment
  • Following handling and storage procedures

Requirements

  • Some experience in a stores, warehouse, or logistics role, or a similar operational environment
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Excel or similar systems
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • Reliable, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Ability to follow processes and work safely in a stores or warehouse environment
  • Flexible approach and willingness to support a range of tasks
  • Ability to travel occasionally when required

Nice to have

  • Experience using inventory management or ERP systems
  • Exposure to logistics or shipping coordination, including deliveries to multiple locations
  • Basic understanding of domestic or international shipping processes
  • Experience supporting reverse logistics or returns processes
  • Forklift or warehouse equipment experience, or willingness to learn
  • Experience working in a fast-paced or growing business environment
  • Interest in sustainability or green logistics practices

  • Manage and coordinate day-to-day goods-in activity, including receiving deliveries, checking items against purchase orders, delivery notes and supporting documentation
  • Inspect incoming goods for visible damage, shortages or discrepancies, escalating issues to Procurement, suppliers, project teams or relevant stakeholders as required
  • Ensure delivered items are booked in accurately using relevant business systems, spreadsheets or inventory records
  • Coordinate goods-out activity, including preparing items for collection, arranging dispatches, completing documentation and liaising with couriers, suppliers or internal stakeholders
