Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
Residency training program in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
Fellowship training in gastroenterology (may be preferred depending on the position)
Board certification in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA
Active and unrestricted medical license in Tennessee
At least one year of experience providing gastroenterology care in a clinical or hospital setting
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, BLS or ACLS

Job Responsibility

Diagnose and treat a wide range of digestive system disorders in adults and potentially children (depending on the position)
Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations
Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as endoscopies, X-rays, CT scans and blood tests
Perform endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat digestive conditions (depending on the scope of practice)
Develop and implement treatment plans
Manage chronic digestive conditions and provide ongoing patient care
Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists and other specialists when needed to ensure coordinated care
Educate patients on digestive health and disease prevention
Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients
Stay current on the latest advancements in gastroenterology through continuing education
