We're looking for an accomplished locum consultant to join our busy Paediatric Emergency Department at Sheffield Children's. With around 65,000 annual attendances, we are a regional major trauma centre renowned for high-quality care, training, and consistent achievement of quality indicators. You will work 5.5 PAs (including weekdays, weekend shifts, and on-call), with a flexible self-rostered consultant rota. This post offers an excellent opportunity for candidates with appropriate training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, from either a Paediatric or Emergency Medicine background.
Job Responsibility:
Provide high-quality examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the Emergency Department
Supervise and support colleagues during clinical hours and on-call shifts
Lead the trauma team, ensuring presence within 30 minutes of a trauma call if on call and off site
Provide emergency on-call services, ensuring availability within 30 minutes
Ensure the smooth operation of the department and contribute to its efficient functioning
Communicate with child protection services and help safeguard children
Collaborate with Trust management to optimise ED and Acute Assessment Unit resources, ensuring high-quality care and meeting Trust targets
Contribute to audit, research, and governance, including responding to incidents and complaints
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent
Full GMC Registration
Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in paediatric emergency medicine (through a paediatric or emergency medicine training pathway) or equivalent or within 6 months of gaining CCT
APLS / EPLS provider
Trauma course provider - ATLS, ETC, CAT or equivalent
Safeguarding level 3
Appropriate training and experience in paediatric emergency medicine
Clear involvement in audit, Quality improvement and Governance projects
Has interest in research and undertaken clinical projects
Able to communicate well with children, parents and staff
Ability to teach
Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues from medical and other disciplines
