An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant in Interventional Radiology to join a growing and forward-thinking Radiology department. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the Interventional Radiology (IR) service, supporting the development of a new IR unit and establishing advanced procedures, including: Prostate Artery Embolisation (PAE), Thrombectomy for pulmonary thromboembolic disease, Venous interventions, including venoplasty and stenting. The post-holder will support vascular IR meetings and contribute to both elective and emergency interventional services.
Job Responsibility:
Provide comprehensive consultant-led Interventional Radiology services (elective and emergency)
Perform a broad range of procedures, including: Vascular (angioplasty, embolisation, aneurysm management), Hepatobiliary interventions, Genitourinary procedures (nephrostomy, ureteric stenting, embolisation), Gastrointestinal interventions, Image-guided biopsies and drainages
Take continuing responsibility for patient care, including associated administrative duties
Ensure adherence to clinical quality standards and evidence-based practice
Liaise effectively with clinicians, GPs, and multidisciplinary teams
Lead the development and expansion of IR services
Establish new procedural pathways (PAE, thrombectomy, venous stenting)
Support recruitment and development of IR services
Contribute to imaging service development across the department
Participate in AAU radiology rota (weekday commitment may apply)
Weekend on-call commitment (approximately 1 in 20) with on-site presence during scheduled hours
Contribute to the extended hours acute imaging service
Future transition to a dedicated IR on-call rota when established
Participate in postgraduate and undergraduate medical education
Support Radiology trainees and non-Radiology trainees
Deliver formal and informal teaching sessions
Contribute to departmental audit and teaching programmes
Participate in clinical effectiveness and governance activities
Maintain CPD in line with Royal College requirements
Participate in annual appraisal and job planning
Engage in audit and quality improvement initiatives
Maintain incident reporting awareness and compliance with NHS complaints systems
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent
FRCR or equivalent
CCT/CCST (or within 6 months of interview) or inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
Extensive experience in General and Interventional Radiology
Knowledge of the NHS complaints system
Record of incident and near-miss reporting
Audit experience
Experience in research and presentations to learned societies
Strong presentation skills
Teaching experience (undergraduate and postgraduate)
Demonstrates honesty, integrity and ethical awareness
Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
Flexible, reliable, and able to work under pressure
Evidence of continuing professional development
Nice to have:
MRCP/FRCS
European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR)
Higher postgraduate degree
First author publications in peer-reviewed journals
