Mid-sized, well-known civil litigation defense firm located near Lake Merritt in Oakland is seeking a Litigation Secretary to join their team on a contract-to-hire basis. This role will support several attorneys handling civil litigation defense matters and is ideal for a candidate who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities. The intent is to convert to a permanent position if it is a good mutual fit.
Job Responsibility:
Perform state and federal e-filing, including compliance with court rules and procedures
Calendar litigation deadlines and court dates in accordance with applicable rules
Prepare, format, proofread, and revise pleadings and legal documents
Create and update tables of contents and tables of authorities
Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and trial binders
Manage attorney calendars and coordinate scheduling
Maintain case files and documents in case management systems
Communicate with courts, clients, and opposing counsel as needed
Support multiple attorneys simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Requirements:
2+ years of experience as a civil litigation assistant or litigation secretary
Strong knowledge of state and federal e-filing rules and procedures
Solid understanding of litigation calendaring rules and deadlines
Experience using case management software such as iManage or similar systems
Ability to support 3 or more attorneys at one time
Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Professional communication skills and ability to work well under deadlines
