A small to mid‑size law firm in San Jose is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal for a contract‑to‑hire opportunity. This Litigation Paralegal role is ideal for someone with 3+ years of hands‑on California litigation experience who is comfortable stepping in right away and supporting active cases.
Job Responsibility:
Support attorneys in all phases of California litigation, from case inception through trial and resolution
Draft, format, and file pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence in compliance with CA rules and deadlines
Manage discovery processes, including preparing responses, coordinating document production, and maintaining discovery logs
Handle e‑filing in California state and federal courts and track litigation deadlines and calendars
Organize and maintain case files (physical and electronic), exhibits, and trial binders
Coordinate depositions, mediations, hearings, and expert communications
Conduct factual and legal research as needed and assist with trial preparation
Requirements:
3+ years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in California courts
Strong working knowledge of California civil litigation procedures and deadlines
Experience with e‑filing, discovery management, and trial preparation
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple matters independently
Paralegal certificate preferred but not required
