A mission‑driven firm focused on complex civil litigation involving environmental law is seeking a contract-to-hire Litigation Paralegal/Secretary to support six attorneys. This is a fully remote role for candidates based in California with strong civil litigation experience. Environmental experience is not required. A laptop will be provided, and the team offers a collaborative, high‑impact workflow environment.
Job Responsibility:
Manage full docketing and calendaring across state and federal matters
Track deadlines, local rules, and judge‑driven timelines across multiple jurisdictions
Support case workflow and anticipate upcoming needs for attorneys
Prepare and format pleadings, TOCs, TOAs, exhibits, subpoenas, and proofs of service
File pleadings and manage service of process
Handle new matter openings and engagement agreements
Support limited discovery (interrogatories, form discovery, exhibit organization)
Assist with multi‑jurisdiction case filings and case cover sheets
Maintain organized workflows in Clio and Google Drive
Requirements:
Based in California
California civil litigation experience
Strong case management, calendaring, and rule‑tracking skills
Experience supporting state and federal court filings
Comfortable with multi‑jurisdictional filings and varying local rules
Strong executive function, organization, and adaptability
Able to work with a variety of attorney personalities
Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting case timelines
Teachable and open to learning new workflows and systems
