We are seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to provide high-level support to partner-level attorneys in a Chicago office. This is a hybrid role, with in-office presence required on Tuesdays and Thursdays, along with alternating Fridays shared with another litigation assistant. The role also includes a rotating early dismissal every other Friday (4:00 PM, otherwise 2:30 PM). The position operates on a 37.5-hour work week with flexibility around start and end times, and offers a salary range of $65K-$80K depending on experience. This opportunity is ideal for a candidate with at least 3+ years of litigation experience who is highly organized and comfortable managing multiple matters in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare, edit, proofread, and format legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and correspondence
Electronically file documents in Illinois state courts, appellate courts, and federal courts, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and deadlines
Maintain litigation calendars and track court deadlines, including scheduling orders and briefing schedules
Assist with discovery, document production, and preparation of pleading and discovery shells
Coordinate depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and meetings with attorneys and clients
Assist with trial preparation, including assembling trial and exhibit binders
Maintain and organize electronic case and client files
Review and finalize attorney time entries
Provide administrative support, including calendar management, scheduling, and routine correspondence
Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, court personnel, and vendors
Manage multiple assignments and meet court-driven deadlines
Requirements:
Minimum of 3+ years of litigation legal assistant experience in a law firm environment
Strong working knowledge of Illinois state and federal court filing rules and procedures
Experience with electronic filing systems across multiple jurisdictions
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and legal document management systems
Excellent grammar, proofreading skills, and attention to detail
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
