A well-established law firm in Chicago seeks a Litigation Legal Assistant to support attorneys and legal professionals in a fast-paced litigation practice. This role requires strong administrative skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Job Responsibility:
Provide comprehensive administrative support to litigation attorneys and paralegals
assist other practice groups as needed
Serve as a professional point of contact for clients, court personnel, and internal staff via phone, email, and in person
Coordinate meetings, conferences, and scheduling arrangements
Prepare, format, edit, and proofread correspondence, memoranda, and legal documents
Draft routine litigation-related documents and filings under attorney direction
Electronically file documents with courts and maintain awareness of filing requirements and deadlines
Monitor and track key dates and deadlines to ensure timely completion of tasks
Manage case files, including opening, maintaining, organizing, and closing physical and electronic records
Process invoices, expense reimbursements, and other administrative requests
Handle incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and document distribution
Transcribe dictated material when required
Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and firm information
Requirements:
Five or more years of litigation legal assistant experience in a law firm or comparable legal environment
Education beyond high school or coursework related to the legal field preferred
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and work with complex legal documents, including pleadings and court filings
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
Knowledge of litigation procedures, court systems, and legal terminology
Ability to review and identify pleadings and other litigation-related documents
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
Clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment, apply common sense, and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment
Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to meet business demands
